Nepal >> Expedition >> Langtang Lirung Expedition

Langtang Lirung Expedition ( 7234m. )

Langtang Lirung lies to the north of Langtang Valley and southwest of the eiththousander Shisha Pangma. It is the highest peak of Langtang Himal which forms the western portion of a complex of mountains including Jugal Himal between the Sun Koshi Valley in the east and Trisuli Gandaki Valley in the west. southwest of Shisha Pangma. Though the Peak is not so high among the major Himalayan peaks in Nepal, Langtang Lirung is notable for its large vertical relief, 5500m. above Trisuli Gandaki to the west in only 16 km. It has a large South Face posing a great challenge to the mountaineers. The peak was found out out by H W Tilman in 1949, it was successfully climbed only in 1978 via East Ridge making four camps in the approach. Most of the previous teams have climbed this peak via Southeast or Southwest Ridge routes.
